St. Lucian Student Tops CPEA in the Region

Madiba Abai Vo Charles from the Tapion Private School is the top performer in St. Lucia and the region in the 2025 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) according to results just released.

A synopsis of candidates’ performances was released by St. Lucia’s Ministry of Education early yesterday.

The results of one thousand nine hundred and sixty (1960) candidates were processed for the CPEA. Of these, nine hundred and sixty-seven (967) were male and nine hundred and ninety-three (993) were female. One hundred and twenty (120) candidates were provided with accommodations including large print, reader, scribe, reader-scribe and attendant. Twenty-four (24) candidates were absent, some as a result of illness and being exempted from the examination among other reasons.

2025 marks the fourth year that the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment was administered to Grade Six students. The examination consisted of an internal component and an external component which were weighted forty percent (40%) and sixty (60%) respectively.

For this year’s examination, the composite scores ranged from 23.6% to 99.6%. The national mean was 77.24% representing an increase of 0.16% when compared to 77.08% in 2024. One thousand eighty-nine (1089) or 55.56% of the candidates scored at or above the national mean, while eight hundred and seventy-one (871) or 44.44% scored below the mean. One thousand nine hundred and eighty-three (1955) candidates were assigned to twenty-one secondary schools and five (5) opted to attend private schools.

The average performance of both male and female students in Mathematics, Science, Language and Social Studies exceeded 70%, with steady annual improvement.

When compared to 2024, there was an increase in performance in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Science recorded the highest performance of 79.95%. While there was an increase of 4.02% in Mathematics performance, there was a decrease of 5.66% in Language performance.

Five (5) primary schools on the island were featured among these top performers. This group consists of six (6) females and five (5) males, with the top score of 99.6% and not falling below 98%.
