Former Saint Lucia and Windward Islands top middle order batter, leg-break googly spinner, and professional Banker Julian Charles will challenge the incumbent Carol Henry for the presidency of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) today (Saturday 27th) November 2021 at the Association’s annual general meeting and election of officers.
The face to face AGM, which begins from 10.00 a.m. with all Covid-19 protocols in place will be held at the Micoud Multi- Purpose Centre (MMPC). Henry who’s a retired Banker is seeking re-election for a second straight term that will run from 2021 – 2023.
Henry presented six priority areas/ strategic plan which he believes the SLNCA affiliates will buy into going forward, they include (1) Grow Cricket: To grow cricket at all levels in Saint Lucia. Priority two: Raise the profile of cricket through the promotion and public engagement. Priority Three: Good Governance – to develop and maintain SLNCA as a democratic organization.
Priority four: Developing Elite Players to deliver success through implementing and supporting the development of first – class cricketers to represent Saint Lucia. Priority five: Financial Freedom – to achieve financial sustainability and Priority Six: Winning teams to deliver competitive success.
The challenger, Julian Charles has decided not to present his strategic plan before elections. “I will share it next week just after the elections, and it will be far more relevant after my team win today,” he noted.
In terms of his confidence going into the elections, Charles said, “Yes I am very confident, but like most elections it is only after the voting.”
Former Pakistan Massage Therapist 2017 – 2019, and coach of the Choiseul SLNCA Dream X1 T20 champion team, Dave Albert will run for the position of 1st Vice-President against the incumbent Shaun Alcindor in a three way fight with Neville Florence been the third candidate in that race.
Alcindor who spoke to this reporter about his chances of returning to office said, “I am running against two people who are on teams, so it’s uphill for me.”
For 2nd Vice President, Denley Anthony, will challenge the incumbent Simon Jules who is campaigning on the Carol Henry slate.
Incumbent Roseline Preville is the only individual running for the post of 3rd Vice President. The former Digicel employee also assists with the administration for the Gros Islet / Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket programme.
