THE Government of Saint Lucia has advised commuters to continue to exercise caution following “significant rainfall” yesterday morning.
According to a government statement, at approximately 7:00 a.m. yesterday a weak surface trough caused isolated moderate to heavy showers over the north-eastern section of Saint Lucia. Heavy rains caused isolated flooding rendering the Tomazo Bridge temporarily impassable. Flood waters have subsided and the debris has since been cleared, the statement issued yesterday afternoon said.
The Saint Lucia Meteorological Office recorded a total rainfall of 149 mm in the Barre de L’isle area. The department warned that while weather conditions had improved, there was a likelihood of more rainfall within the next 24 hours.
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) urges the citizenry to remain extremely vigilant and to continue to listen to weather reports for further updates.
