GROUPS 1, 2 and 3 of the Saint Lucia Football Association sponsored Saint Lucia Sports Online/ DBS Television Boys’ Under-14 Challenge Series kicks off at the Dames playing field (Vieux Fort), Mabouya playing field and the Marigot playing field today (Saturday 15th December 2018) featuring teams from twelve SLFA affiliates.
The Under-14s will create history as the final will take place on Sunday 20th January 2019 at the SLFA/FIFA newly built Technical Centre/Gold Project in Grande Riviere, Dennery. The facility has passed the FIFA approved Test and it is a venue that has been certified as an International size field in terms of the requirements of FIFA.
In matches on today’s card, at 10.00 a.m. Group 1: Micoud will play Soufriere and Vieux Fort South versus Desruisseaux at 12.00 noon. Both matches are slated for the Dames playing field.
On the east coast, in Group 2: from 2.00 p.m. Central Castries will come against Dennery and at 4.00 p.m. Anse la Raye will fancy their chances when they meet Gros Islet. Both matches will be played at the Mabouya Valley playing field.
In Group 3 from 10.00 a.m. Canaries takes on Marchand and South Castries go up against Mon Repos at 12.00 noon. Both matches will be played at the Marigot playing field.
Fourteen of the SLFA 19 districts are placed in three groups.
Group 1 comprises – Vieux Fort South, Roseau Valley, Central Castries, Dennery and Desruisseaux. Group 2: Mabouya Valley, Anse la Raye, Soufriere, Gros Islet, Micoud and Group 3: Canaries, Marchand, South Castries and Mon Repos.
The final preliminary round of matches is scheduled for January 8th 2019 at the Sab sporting facility.
In semifinal action is scheduled for Saturday 13th 2019 at the Mabouya Valley playing field, the winner Group 1 versus the 2nd best place team, while winner Group 2 will play the winner of Group 3.
In August, the Saint Lucia Under- 14 Boy’s emerged champions of Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Challenge Cup in the Dominican Republic, as they went on to defeat Turks and Caicos 8-0, Puerto Rico 1-0, Saint Martin 2-0 and host, the Dominican Republic 3-1. Some of these players will be in the thick of things representing their respective districts.
SLFA President Lyndon Cooper commented on the tournament by saying, “This is a very exciting time for our national programme. The players representing their various districts are all part of the developmental plan. Coming out of this you have the Under- 15 Boys for the CONCACAF Championships scheduled for August 2019.
“The SLFA is excited to be hosting this tournament and we encourage the public to come out and support our boys and the games as they will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience playing against their peers.” Cooper said.
Meanwhile, matches continue on Monday 17th, in Group 1, at 10.00 a.m. Anse la Raye versus Mabouya Valley and Vieux Fort South plays Central Castries at 12.00 noon. Both matches will be played at the Sab sporting facility.
In Group 3, at 10.00 a.m. Canaries versus South Castries and Roseau Valley plays Desruisseaux at 12.00 noon. Both matches will be played at the Marigot playing field.
In Group 2, at 2.00 p.m. Gros Islet versus Micoud and Soufriere plays Anse la Raye at 4.00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Mabouya Valley playing field.
