Since the establishment of the Saint Lucia Cricket High-Performance Centre three years ago, it has become customary for Cricket Saint Lucia players to assist the St Lucia Kings CPL T20 franchise as net bowlers during the team’s home games.
Assistant bowling coach and former Windward Islands player Larry Edward emphasized the significance of this experience for the youngsters, many of whom have yet to participate in senior regional cricket. He explained that the players, not having been part of a Windward Islands setup, benefited greatly from the chance to train with CPL professionals.
“This is a good exposure… It helps them improve their tactics and learn how to bowl against senior class players,” Edward noted.
The training sessions allowed young players to experiment with different techniques and learn various aspects of the game.
Edward highlighted that they garnered a wealth of knowledge from the CPL senior players, enhancing their bowling skills and adapting to the nuances of different game scenarios.
“I feel they gained valuable experience from this training exercise,” Edward said. “This will help them compete against top opposition and learn how to bowl on different pitches at different times.”
The collaboration between the High-Performance Centre and the CPL franchise serves as a crucial stepping stone for the next generation of cricketers in Saint Lucia.
In conclusion, the HPC players returned to training at the Saint Lucia Cricket High-Performance Centre after the CPL break, while local players resumed honing their skills at Mindoo Phillip Park.
Young spinners are concentrating on improving their consistency, line, and length. Their recent experience as net bowlers during the CPL has provided them with valuable exposure to international players and coaches.
