In an impressive start to SPFL 2 at the MPP on Sunday, Marchand and Gros Islet both secured their positions on the points table with convincing wins.

The season kicked off with a formal appearance by Prime Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Castries East, Philip J. Pierre, Sports Minister Kenson Casimir, and football officials, who welcomed the teams before the action commenced.

In the Tier 1 Premiership feature match, Gros Islet showcased their offensive prowess, decisively defeating newly promoted South Castries 3-0. Their strikers executed the game plan flawlessly, securing a commanding victory.

Jahlil Evans set the tone with an early goal in the 4th minute, followed by Troy Greenidge doubling the score before halftime. Sherman Augustin capped off the dominant performance with a well-placed finish in the 51st minute, solidifying Gros Islet’s triumph.

Meanwhile, in the opening fixture of the double-header, Tier 2 home team Marchand thrilled their fans with a confident 3-1 victory over Laborie. Talisman Lincoln Philip was instrumental, scoring a brace that highlighted his skill and experience. He first put Marchand ahead in the 13th minute and followed with another goal in the 60th minute, while Nas Valcin added to the tally with a 25th-minute goal.

Laborie managed a response with a goal from Zak Boland in the 38th minute, but they never posed a serious threat to Marchand’s lead.
