The Windward Islands School Games (WWISG) have been marked by keen competition and outstanding displays at the indoor match contests.

On Tuesday, July 28, the Windward Islands School Games netball match between Saint Lucia and Grenada took place at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, showcasing an exciting display of skill and determination.

By halftime, Saint Lucia had established a slender lead of 19-12. The third quarter saw the home team elevate their performance significantly, with their shooters in great form, a solid defense that stifled Grenada’s offense, and seamless transitions.

As a result, they surged ahead to a commanding 32-17 lead heading into the final quarter. Despite Grenada’s spirited efforts to stay competitive, Saint Lucia’s momentum was unstoppable.

In male volleyball, Dominica delivered a commanding performance, defeating Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in straight sets: 25-23, 25-11, 25-16. The opening set was a tense battle, with SVG pushing hard and nearly stealing the momentum.

However, Dominica held firm under pressure, edging out a narrow 25-23 win. Shifting gears, Dominica overwhelmed their opponents with a dominant 25-11 second set. They sealed the match with a confident 25-16 finish, showcasing both skill and composure.

Captain Kazim Alexander led with authority, ensuring his team stayed focused and disciplined throughout the match.

Saint Vincent’s squad, displaying their Fighting Spirit, and despite the loss, they showed resilience, particularly in the opening set, where Captain Nichols rallied his teammates, embodying the spirit of the Vincentian squad.

The WWISG Men’s Basketball clash at the Beausejour Indoor Facility was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a contest filled with drama, momentum swings, and carnival-like energy from the stands.

At the end of the third quarter, Dominica held a narrow 63-61 lead, but Grenada’s passionate supporters, their “12th man,” turned the tide. Feeding off that energy, Grenada surged in the final stretch to claim an 88-80 victory, sparking jubilant celebrations that transformed the arena into a mini carnival.

Grenada’s triumph was fueled by standout performances: Curtis Samuel dominated with 31 points, six rebounds, one steal, and two assists. Michael McLeod contributed 19 points, four rebounds, five steals, and two assists, while Janeme Gellineau added 11 points, five rebounds, one steal, and two assists.

Stephen Strachan chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Dominica fought valiantly, with Karim Daniel posting 21 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. K’Oman Telemacque delivered 18 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists, while Caelan Paul matched his effort with 18 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
