Three of Saint Lucia’s promising athletic stars have been selected to compete in the World Athletics U20 Championships, taking place from August 5 to 9, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
Jady Emmanuel, Denzel Phillips, and Ricardo Mann will proudly represent Saint Lucia at this prestigious championship.
Emmanuel will participate in the Women’s 100 metres, Phillips will contest the Men’s Discus, and Mann will compete in the Men’s 100 metres.
They will be joined by Team Manager Sigmund Daniels and Team Coach Denise Herman. The Saint Lucia Athletics Association (SLAA) announced that four athletes met the required qualification standards during the qualification period; however, following the final confirmation process, three were officially named to the team.
SLAA President Dora Henry highlighted the significance of this achievement for the development of athletics in Saint Lucia.
“Representing Saint Lucia at the World Athletics U20 Championships is a tremendous honour and provides our young athletes with the opportunity to compete against the very best in the world,” Henry stated.
She emphasized that their qualifications are a testament to years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance, along with invaluable support from their coaches, clubs, and families.
“We are proud of these exceptional young ambassadors and remain committed to creating pathways that enable Saint Lucian athletes to thrive on the international stage,” she added.
The World Athletics U20 Championships is the premier international event for athletes under the age of 20 and has been instrumental in launching the careers of numerous Olympic and World champions.
The SLAA also extends congratulations to all athletes who achieved the qualification standards, acknowledging their accomplishments as evidence of the continual growth and high standards of athletics in Saint Lucia.
