Julien Alfred erased a 31-year-old meet record to win the women’s 100m race in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday on the Wanda Diamond League circuit. Alfred, St. Lucia’s first Olympic Gold medalist, eased her way across the finish line in a time of 10.75 leaving Dina Asher-Smith {10.93} and Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith {11.00} in her wake. It was only Thursday when Alfred recorded Her Osla win in a time of 10.98.
Julien Alfred’s 10.75 erased Irina Privalova’s 1994 best of 10.90 from the record books.
Alfred has the second fastest time this year behind the USA’s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden’s 10.73 in Philadelphia less than a month ago.
The Diamond League’s next events are scheduled for Paris, France on June 20th and The Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on July 5th. After Stockholm, Alfred was reportedly headed back to base in Texas in preparation for The Prefontaine Classic.
The Prefontaine Classis is the premier track and field meet in the United States. Since its inception in 1975, the meet has been a fixture on the global sports callender and has earned the reputation of bringing some of the world’s best athletes together, at Hayward Field of the University of Oregon.
