Athletes and fans gathered with enthusiasm on Father’s Day (June 15) for the exhilarating 9th edition of the Elite Invitational Track and Field Meet at Mindoo Phillip Park.

Despite heavy rain the night before and early morning showers threatening delays, the organizers overcame these challenges to ensure that one of the island’s premier track events commenced without a hitch.

With 17 schools and clubs from across Saint Lucia competing for supremacy, every race was charged with urgency. The men’s open 1600 meters took center stage, featuring eight determined athletes primed for a contest marked by fierce competition and the promise of a cash prize.

Experienced racers Jason Sayers and Neville Dupre were set for a showdown that demanded the attention of spectators.

While official results were still being compiled at the time of this report, it was clear that multiple records were broken, proving that the standard was raised yet again.

Elite Track and Field President, Dona Emmanuel, expressed pride in the day’s events, commending the athletes for their outstanding performances despite the early morning challenges. She underscored the intense competition and recognized the unwavering commitment of all those involved.

Emmanuel extended heartfelt thanks to the volunteers, members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, Saint Lucia Fire Service, teachers, coaches, and parents, all of whom played a critical role in ensuring the meet’s success.
