Local Cyclists Showcase Exceptional Skills in Tough Challenge

Top senior and junior cyclists showcased their prowess in the Saint Lucia Cycling Association (SLCA) road race event, where fierce competition and high stakes defined the day, and one young rider emerged as a standout.

Seventeen-year-old Denver Alphonse, already making waves in the regional cycling circuit with a Martiniquan club, dominated the 88.7-kilometer senior division race, finishing in a remarkable 2 hours 27:36 seconds-an impressive eight-minute lead over the competition.

Gillan Moses secured second place with a time of 2 hours 35:50 seconds, while Winston “Stony” Williams claimed third just 11 seconds later, finishing in 2 hours 36:01 seconds.

Andray Volney took fourth with a time of 2 hours 36:02.36 seconds, and Fidel Esnard rounded out the top five, clocking in at 2 hours 36:02.98 seconds.

In the junior category, five riders tackled the challenging 76 km course, clearly showcasing the future of Saint Lucian cycling. Gedeon Louis triumphed with a time of 2 hours 45:06 seconds, followed by Merkelan Dornelly in second at 2 hours 57:11 seconds, and Kivanni Mercier who crossed the line in third at 3 hours 00:59 seconds.

Seraphina William made history as the only female competitor to complete the race, finishing fourth in an impressive time of 3 hours 02:21 seconds—a testament to her determination and grit.

Cyril Mangal, SLCA President, commended the extraordinary performances, underscoring the strength, endurance, and undeniable talent of both junior and senior competitors.
