Team St. Lucia Dominates ECGA Championship, Misses Out on Coveted Team Prize

Team Saint Lucia dominated last weekend’s Bank of Saint Lucia Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Amateur Championship 2022 (ECGA) at the Sandals Golf and Country Club (SGCC).

However, despite the teams outstanding display, dominating the competition, the coveted Combined Team Gross trophy eluded team Saint Lucia thanks to a stellar performance by the Antiguan Junior Ladies and their manager Melinda Wynter.

Team Saint Lucia won most of the prizes up for contention.

In the team’s division Saint Lucia won:

• Men’s Team Gross 1st and Net 2nd (Romanus Inglis, Nicolas Beaubrun, Harith Khan, Anthony Spallone)

• Senior Team Gross and Net 1st (Eugene Edwin, Tim Mangal, Terry Verdant)

• Super Senior Team Gross 1st and Net 1st (McHale Andrew & Kent Glace)

In the individual division Saint Lucia won:

• Gross Men 1st (Romanus Inglis)

• Gross Senior, 1ST and 2nd (Eugene Edwin & Tim Mangal)

•   Net Senior, 1ST and 2nd (Eugene Edwin & Terry Verdant)

• Gross Super Senior, 2nd (McHale Andrew)

• Net Super Senior, 2nd (McHale Andrew & Dr Kent Glace)

Saint Lucia also won the second most coveted trophy at the championship:

• Combined Team Net 1st (Romanus Inglis, Nicolas Beaubrun, Harith Khan, Anthony Spallone, Catherine Spooner, Debra Ross, Lesley Saunderson, Eugene Edwin, Tim Mangal, Terry Verdant, McHale Andrew & Dr Kent Glace)

There was also an Individual Division won by:

• Gross 1st and 2nd (Simon Reyes & Corey Devaux)

• Net 1st and 2nd (Neil Carasco & DR Dhamendra Shah)

Finally, the Grow Well Junior Golf Division:

• Gross 1st (Keymaine Thomas)

• Net 1st (Britney Mangal)

The playing conditions over the past weekend were tough, due to the weather, however this did not prevent exceptional and competitive scores.

The Saint Lucia Golf Association (SLGA) was applauded by all participants for a hosting a well-organized and executed tournament. The event was live streamed on local TV, as well as on YouTube through Great Vision Designs’ channel (where the replay can be seen).

The SLGA thanked coach Canice for his contribution to the team and event, also the government, dignitaries, sponsors, volunteers, fans, the staff at SGCC, managers, and players for making ECGA 2022 a great success.

Team Saint Lucia was up against teams from Antigua, St. Kitts, Martinique, St. Maarten and St. Croix.
