BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Caribbean politicians were on Saturday praising the life of Fidel Castro, the former Cuban leader who died on Friday and who sought to improve relations between his Communist island and the region. “The real Revolutionary.Indelibly etched in history. I pay my respects to the life and work of Fidel Castro and express the profound condolences and sympathies of the Jamaican people to the people of Cuba,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness said in a message on his Facebook page.

Chastanet: ‘Truly Remarkable’

PRIME Minister Allen Chastanet has described the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro as “truly remarkable” and an “incredible figure” in world history. He said: “Former president Fidel Castro will always stand out as an incredible figure in the history of the world and the Caribbean. We must commend his achievements, what he did for his own country and what he has done for the Caribbean in terms of education and health care.

Trade Show Gets Praise

A great deal of praise is already being expressed for the ninth annual Saint Lucia-Taiwan Partnership Trade Exhibition held over the weekend. However, despite the best efforts by organizers, some key aspects need to be addressed going forward, some say. The exhibition ran from Friday through Sunday and saw the participation of 65 Saint Lucian and 7 Taiwanese companies showcasing their goods and services. Hundreds of patrons attended the event held at Johnsons Centre in Rodney Bay to either purchase or network with the exhibitors.

Montessori Centre supports Cancer Society

IN observance of Cancer Awareness Month, teachers and students of the Montessori Centre made a generous donation of $1,500.00 to the St Lucia Cancer Society. “We at the Society depend upon the goodwill of the community to help us continue our work in trying to ease the burden of those afflicted with the disease, as well as helping people get well and stay well, and empowering them to fight back”, a spokesperson for the school said.

ST. JUDE Hospital, in collaboration with Des Moines University, Iowa, will host the inaugural Continuing Medical Education (CME) Conference in January. The conference is aimed at doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, social workers, and allied health staff, and will provide relevant and accredited continuing education opportunities for healthcare professionals in Saint Lucia and the wider Eastern Caribbean in order to promote development and optimal patient care.
