CONCACAF Women’s Qualifier: St. Lucia vs Antigua Tomorrow

SAINT LUCIA will play host Antigua and Barbuda in their final match this evening in Groups D qualifiers of the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s Championship currently taking place in Antigua.

On Wednesday evening, in their opening match against Curacao, Saint Lucia nosed ahead with a 2-1 victory.

Saint Lucia captain, Ellaisa Marquis wearing the No. 8 Jersey put her team ahead in the 30th minute to enjoy a 1-0 lead at the halftime whistle.

On the resumption, Samantha Statia found the much needed equalizer for Curacao in the 55th minute, but that celebration on the pitch was short lived as Lyla Lionel wearing the No.10 jersey put Saint Lucia ahead 3 minutes later to seal the victory and the three points.

Also on the night, host Antigua and Barbuda defeated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 1-0.

Last evening Saint Lucia played Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, while Curacao played host Antigua and Barbuda.

The team is under the watchful eyes of Trevor Anderson- Head Coach, Dermot Monrose- Assistant Coach, Mary Cambell-Head of Delegation, Cyril Podd -Technical Director, Hance Richards – Physiotherapist.

Group C is currently being played in Trinidad and Tobago with the participation of the host, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, US Virgin Islands and Dominica.

At Lenora Track and Field in Guyana, play also got underway on Wednesday in Group E that comprised Barbados, Suriname, Bermuda and host Guyana.

Meanwhile, only the winner of each group advances to the final round of the Caribbean qualifiers that will take place from August 25th to September 2nd at a venue to be decided.

Powerhouses, Cuba (Group A) and Jamaica (Group B) have already booked their tickets to the final round.

The top three teams in the final round will qualify for the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship from October 4th to 17th in the United States. Group A will be played in Cary, North Carolina, while Group B will be played in Edinburg, Texas.

The final stage will take place in Frisco, Texas, and the top three teams will qualify as representatives of CONCACAF for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

With the possibility of qualifying another CONCACAF nation, the fourth-place team will engage in an intercontinental playoff against a selection from CONMEBOL.
