A number of children in Saint Lucia within the school system suffer with various illnesses and it is reported that diabetes lead the charge in that regard. The District ll Education Office which oversees the proper functioning of the various primary and secondary schools in Castries will today from 10:00 a.m. stage their 9th annual fun walk, their first sporting event for the new year.
This morning’s event will be held under the theme, “Building Healthy Bodies to Sustain Energetic Minds”.
Event coordinator, Melissa John, said close to 1300 students will participate in this year’s activity and, like previous years, the students will be accompanied by their various school principals, teachers, parents and health personnel. Also, there will be a truck with a hi-fi system to provide the students with music along the route.
“Following the walk, all the students will assemble in the school yard where they will be engaged in a Socacise warm-down session, a fitness presentation by Vide Boutielle Primary School and entertainment by a local artiste to bring the curtains down,” John said.
The participating schools include Anglican Primary and Infant, Methodist Infant and Primary, Carmen Rene Memorial, Camille Henry Memorial, Vide Bouteille (infant/primary), St. Mary’s College, Sir Ira Simmons and Castries Comprehensive Secondary School.
The route will take the students from Camille Henry Memorial School grounds (opposite WASCO) then left onto Lanse Road, right turn unto Desir Avenue, left turn by Serenity Park, right turn up Mac Vane Road, left down onto Crick Road, turning left down Julian Charles Road, then right onto Desir Avenue, left turn into Maurice Mason Avenue, right turn onto Carnation Drive, left turn onto Hibiscus Crescent, right turn onto L’Anse Road to end at the Camille Henry Memorial School grounds.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force Traffic Department will provide outriders to ensure motorists using the above mentioned route to adhere to their respective signals while the Saint Lucia Fire Service and Saint Lucia Red Cross Society will provide an ambulance and medical personnel.
