Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has taken exception to what he has described as disrespect on the part of the United Workers Party (UWP) as it relates to the Roman Catholic Church. The Prime Minister was referring to a request by the church for all political activities to take leave on Sunday November 23rd, 2025. The Roman Catholic Church on Sunday celebrated “Christ the King”.

Speaking on the issue, Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire confirmed that both political leaders agreed to suspend all political activities on that day, however the UWP launched its manifesto on Sunday. At the launching on  Sunday UWP spokesman Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute explained that the agreement had not been breached because the launch was pushed back a few hours so as not to affect the planned activities of the church. Quizzed by Choice TV on why the supposed breach occurred, Archbishop Mulzaire was puzzled, saying “I don’t know why.”

The Prime Minister insists that this demonstrates a clear disrespect and disregard for the church of which he is a “practicing member.”
