With the West Indies conceding the three-match Test series to Australia, trailing 2-0, the stage is firmly set for the historic day/night match at Sabina Park, Jamaica, starting today (July 12).

This much-anticipated encounter will mark the first-ever day/night Test in Jamaica and only the second in the Caribbean, following the 2018 clash between West Indies and Sri Lanka at Kensington Oval.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confidently announces that all systems are ready for this landmark day/night Test match. Both teams have engaged in intense training sessions under the lights, experiencing the unique twilight conditions. The feedback? Undoubtedly positive.

West Indies Head Coach Daren Sammy praised the lighting and atmosphere: “The lights are excellent. Our batters and bowlers performed without any issues. There’s an undeniable buzz in the camp—everyone’s ready to embrace this historic environment, especially at such a beautiful venue.”

This milestone was made possible through the successful installation of an upgraded lighting system at Sabina Park, recently certified by an independent company as meeting ICC standards.

Dr. Donovan Bennett, President of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), expressed gratitude to those who contributed to these vital upgrades, stating, “Their hard work in enhancing the lights at Sabina Park marks a significant advance for cricket in our country.”

With preparations complete, Sammy emphasizes that the West Indies are determined to make history and honor their fans. “We understand the significance of this match. It’s a first for Jamaica, and we are committed to delivering five days of quality cricket and joy. Our players are ready to rise to the occasion,” he declared.

Dr. Bennett calls on cricket fans and Jamaicans to seize the moment and be part of national history.

He asserts, “I urge the Jamaican public to come out in full force for this historic occasion—let’s pack the stands and show our unwavering support. Remember, children under 16 are free, so bring the whole family and join us in this proud moment of our cricketing legacy.”
