SOUFRIERE Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS) claimed victory in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-19 Netball Tournament, defeating the front-runners Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) 17-12 in the finals held last week.
In a fiercely contested match at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday (November 13), the ‘Twin Peak’ girls maintained a slim lead until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought triumph. The quarter scores were 4-4, 8-6, 10-9, 17-12.
Goal-Shoot Cleah Cazabon led SCSS with 8 goals from 14 attempts, exhibiting exceptional performance alongside Goal-Attack Marissa Duncan, who achieved an impressive 9 goals from 9 tries.
For SALCC, Goal-Shoot Kaley Monlouis netted 7 goals from 10 attempts, while Goal-Attack Lana Hollinseed scored 2 from 4, and Goal-Attack Xennia Joseph contributed 3 from 4.
In the battle for third place, Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School (LHCSS) defeated Micoud Secondary School (MSS) 25-15. The quarter scores were 6-3, 11-6, 19-10, 25-15.
For LHCSS, Goal-Shoot Neanna Francois was outstanding, scoring 20 from 28 attempts, while Goal-Attack Jada Prospere contributed 5 from 9. For MSS, Goal-Shoot Jemmilla Antoine scored 4 from 11, along with Goal-Attack Kiehanna St. Juste (2 from 4) and Goal-Attack Me Keige Joseph (4 from 7).
During the post-match Awards Presentation, the following recognitions were awarded:
– MVPs for each team: Neanna Francois (LHCSS), Rhea Jn Phillip (SCSS), Clarise Nervais (MSS), and Halie Alexander (SALCC).
– Most Accurate Shooters of the Tournament: Hailey Thomas (CCSS), 36/54 – 67%; Kaley Monlouis (SALCC), 72/108 – 67%.
– Most Defensive Player of the Final: Rhea Jn Phillip (SCSS).
– Best Attacking Player of the Final: Marissa Duncan (SCSS).
– MVP of the Final: Rhea Jn Phillip (SCSS).
– Champion Team: SCSS, awarded the championship trophy and gold medal.
– 2nd Place: SALCC, received the 2nd place trophy and silver medal.
– 3rd Place: LHCSS, awarded the 3rd place trophy and bronze medal.
SCSS proved their dominance throughout the tournament, showcasing skill, teamwork, and determination to emerge victorious.
