Saint Lucia is preparing to improve its data processing infrastructure under the continuing Data for Decision-Making (DDM) project led by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
A high-level delegation of key stakeholders is actively analysing and optimising the country’s data systems in partnership with the World Bank.
In December, the World Bank (WB) collaborated with OECS officials and the Government of Saint Lucia to conduct a detailed assessment and review of performance measures, clearing the way to complete this crucial effort.
Ann Luisa Paffhausen, World Bank economist and team leader, underlined the importance of the OECS DDM initiative in providing the region’s nations with the tools and mechanisms they need to make educated, evidence-based decisions.
“This initiative goes beyond merely evaluating progress; it is about fortifying our partnerships, enhancing strategies, and ensuring that data becomes a transformative force for sustainable development,” she said.
The World Bank is committed to funding initiatives that will provide long-term benefits to the people of the OECS.
Saint Lucia’s delegation included policymakers and technical officers who worked with World Bank professionals from the Data and Access team to engage in high-level conversations about staffing, conveyance, monitoring procedures, and the importance of beneficiary satisfaction surveys.
Barbara Ann Francis-Augustin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Department of Economic Development, stated, “This mission highlights our commitment to harnessing data as a strategic tool for national development. by working closely with the OECS and the World Bank, we are making decisive strides to enhance our decision-making processes, aligning our actions with the needs of our citizens.”
This strategic relationship ensures that Saint Lucia continues to build a strong basis for evidence-based policy and long-term growth. The technical seminars will cover the agricultural census, a household budget survey of living conditions, methodology, financial management processes, and updates to procurement strategies.
These joint activities will address current issues, improve processes, and establish action plans for the upcoming year.
The outcome of this mission is critical in improving Saint Lucia’s ability to use data as a driving factor for decision-making, eventually benefiting its population and aligning with sustainable development goals.
