Help With Hearing

PERSONS in St Lucia with hearing problems will soon be able to get assistance thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Starkey Hearing Foundation of the United States. Statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that more than 360 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss with the highest percentage in developing countries. However, half of all hearing loss is preventable through early detection and primary health care intervention.

City Police Effective – Law And Order Gets a Boost

THE presence of City Police Officers (CPOs) on the streets is making a difference in maintenance of law and order in the capital after just a few `weeks but their role is expected to be further enhanced in the weeks ahead. Decked in their starched white polo shirts and dark tunics the officers of the Castries Constabulary have added muscle to law enforcement, winning them appreciation and praise from a number of citizens.

Media Urged To Raise The Bar

LOCAL media houses are again being encouraged to consider the option of self-regulation so as to steer them away from litigation and lack of credibility as a result of stories they publish or air. On Thursday, representatives from the Media Association of Saint Lucia (MASL), the Attorney General’s Office and media houses met to discuss the media’s crucial role in disseminating information to the public. However, all agreed that the media needs to do more to protect itself from finding itself at the centre of controversy and lawsuits.
