THE Saint Lucia Yacht Club in conjunction with the Saint Lucia Sailing Association recently launched the 5th edition of the Mango Bowl Regatta scheduled for November 25-27 with a series of races in Rodney Bay.

This year, the event has been renamed to Digicel Mango Bowl Regatta, thanks to gold sponsor, Digicel, and their EC$20,000 sponsorship.

Digicel’s Marketing and Communications Executive, Louise Victor, who was present at the ceremony and cheque presentation, confirmed Digicel’s commitment to sponsor the event for the next three years.

Victor said: “Digicel’s branding is seen at many sporting events island-wide. We are committed not only to sporting events, but the development of youth through sports. Digicel sees the value of sports in balancing the lives of Saint Lucians who enjoy Digicel’s social media products and recognizes the need for public involvement to encourage a culture that celebrates healthy lifestyles and the values learned through sports.”

Renowned sports commentator, Joseph “Reds” Pereira, the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, also acknowledged silver sponsor, Dive Saint Lucia, which has been on board for the past three years.

This year, as part of its sponsorship, Dive Saint Lucia will provide a VIP boat for the weekend allowing on-water spectating for its guests. Island Global Yachting/Rodney Bay Marina, a sponsor of the Mango Bowl since its inception, has once again committed itself as a bronze sponsor of the regatta as has first-time sponsor, Saint Lucia Distillers.

The regatta committee under Director Lily Bergasse, is planning for a fantastic event which expects participation from a combined 30 local and regional yachts in the different classes of race: Cruisers I and II, J24, Surprises and Melges. For the first time, the regatta may also include an X-Treme 26 class of race, which is to be confirmed by X-Treme yacht captains in Martinique and Saint Lucia.

Like previous years, a spectator boat will be available for the public to take in the action.
