Emmanuel SDA Students Successful at CEE

ON Tuesday July 20, the Emmanuel SDA Primary School held its 30th graduation ceremony, passing out a small cohort of 18 students. The school, located in Mon Repos, is one of three primary schools managed by the St Lucia Mission of Seventh Day Adventists and even though exam results had not been released it did not stop the administrators from recognizing the students’ hard work. Due to the pandemic the audience was small with only parents and a few special guests in attendance.

While over the years the school has repeatedly been the top school in its district, last year, 2020, the school registered in the top ten national scores for the first time. When results were announced on Wednesday the students again proved that they could not be daunted by the challenges posed by the pandemic and at least one student scored in the top 20.

Angeli Victor (93.67%), Royelle Wilson (87 %) and Chloe Toussaint (84.56%) were the top scorers for Emmanuel and have been assigned to the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School. Ms. Victor took the 15th place on island. Other student school assignments included the St Mary’s College, Leon Hess Comprehensive and Micoud Secondary. Half of the students scored at or above the national mean of 61.77, landing Emmanuel third in a group of nine schools in its district.

School principal Mrs. Bessie Augustin was full of praise for her students and teachers.

“Given the situation our students faced this past year, I am very satisfied with their results. Many of the students exceed expectations. The fact that they were able to meet the national mean and everyone assigned to a school is great news. These are students, some of whom, had no devices or no internet and could not benefit fully from our online teaching.”

“We thank God,” Mrs. Augustin added, “and our teachers did an awesome job in preparing the students through a very difficult year.”

This is the final group to sit this exam. Continuous assessments will now be the way forward for primary school students.
