Earl Bousquet: ‘I’m OK Because I’m at OKEU!’

By VOICE Reporter

The Voice received word yesterday that senior political correspondent, talk show host and Voice columnist Earl Bousquet had been involved in an accident near the Waterfront, Castries. Photos of the accident have since been circulated with 64-year-old Bousquet laying on the ground near a small pool of blood.

“This is the second time it’s happening to him…” a family member told the VOICE. “This time as the crowd gathered, people were telling him to stay in one place and not to move. In the photo you can see he’s wearing one of these netted shirts and is getting burnt from the road. Fortunately, the ambulance didn’t take long to arrive.”

According to that same family member, Bousquet had been taking a walk to see his mother, who he hadn’t been able to see much due to Covid-19. In fact, Bousquet had recently written humorously in his Chronicles of a Chronic Caribbean Chronicler column in the Voice about his mother’s aversion to house guests even on her birthday that she celebrated recently saying, “I asked [her] if we could come for ‘just a minute’ – and she said: ‘I told you to Stay Home – if you want call me on the video on your phone and the boys will see me and talk to me and tell me Happy Birthday.”

He then joked about how tech savvy his 86-year-old mother was, and the fact that she’d imposed her own “one day, 24-hour quarantine on her birthday.”

Bousquet himself celebrated his 64th birthday last week with his family, playing dominoes and reconnecting.

On Sunday, just before he was struck by an oncoming car, he’d stopped at the ATM. Once he was done, he’d attempted to cross the street right after a bus not noticing the car, immediately after, which ran into him.

“He didn’t see it coming,” his family confirmed.

On Sunday, just before he was struck by an oncoming car, he’d stopped at the ATM. Once he was done, he’d attempted to cross the street right after a bus. That was when he was hit by the oncoming Toyota Altezza.

Bousquet remained conscious after the collision and was transported to the OKEU Hospital with a head injury from the impact, and a broken leg.

“His leg is broken in three places and he has to do knee surgery on Monday. He needs 4 pints of blood because of the loss of blood, which the hospital will provide. The blood bank needs more, and therefore is asking Saint Lucians to donate.”

“He is very optimistic,” our source added. “He never plays a situation badly. If you ask him how he’s doing even if he’s doing terrible, he will come up with something positive to say. He is very positive and he’s already making plans to adjust to his new life. He also said he’s OK because he’s at OKEU.”

  1. Earl you’re too old to be playing these games with St.Lucia traffic. You should know
you don’t only look ‘left’ as you always do, but you should immediately look right also.
Covid is one thing but that traffic in Castries is something else. Any way my Brother
the good lord is not ready for you yet, so while there’s some time in reserve, let me join
you with this ” I thank you my heavenly father for your protection and please allow me just
some extra time to reflect on the past, the present and whatever the future holds for me to
be the person you created me to be, and to be an inspiration to many, I humbly ask in the
holy name of Jesus, Amen”. I will pray for you, it will take some time but you are in good hands.

  2. Take a look outside trough the window, the sun will shine for you to get better and going again.
