The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) has, in a recent statement, clarified that it is not responsible for the waste water issue on Bridge Street, Castries, following reports of a foul odour emanating from wastewater seeping onto the roadway.
The utility company issued the clarification after becoming aware of growing concern from vendors in the area and other members of the public about the situation. WASCO has expressed that it “does not operate or maintain a sewer line along Bridge Street, Castries” and that “while the company recognizes the inconvenience and concerns associated with this issue, the matter does not fall under WASCO’s current sewerage infrastructure network or operational responsibility.”
WASCO further expressed that they remain “committed to supporting the proper management of Saint Lucia’s water and wastewater systems and [continue] to respond to issues that fall within its mandate” and that “where wastewater concerns involve infrastructure or systems outside of WASCO’s ownership and management, the relevant authorities or responsible parties must be engaged to address the matter.”
Though the company did not identify which agency or entity is responsible for the sewer infrastructure on Bridge Street in question, they did encourage members of the public who observe wastewater-related issues to report through the appropriate channels.
