THE Gros Islet Football League (GIFL) Under 11 Invitational Football Tournament kicked off on Saturday 23rd November at the Gros Islet Playing Field with a series of scheduled matches.
Nine teams are participating in the competition, during which they will play a single round robin competition in two groups. At the end of the round the top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals.
Group A: Valley Soccer Academy; Northern United; Flames FC; Flow Lancers FC; Nyah FC.
Group B: GMC United; Monchy United; Pioneers FC and B1 FC.
In matches played over the weekend, defending champions Northern United made their intentions clear with a 7 – 0 victory over Nyah FC.
Devonte Herman registered the tournament’s first hat trick while Tyrell Antoine and Tevez Evans contributed two goals each.
Following a rude awakening last time around Monchy FC, with lessons learnt, returned with a 4 – 3 victory over GMC United.
For Monchy FC, the goal scorers were Malik Louis with a brace (2) and one each from CletonAmedee and Joshua Norley.
Shaquil Thomas scored a hat trick for GMC.
In other games played Flow Lancers FC and Valley Soccer Academy played to a pulsating 3 – 3 draw.
B1 FC and FC Pioneers played to a goalless draw.
Meanwhile, Valley Soccer won by default over Nyah FC.
In the final game played on Sunday 24th November, Northern United continued soldiering on with a 4 – 0 victory over Flow Lancers FC.
