ST. LUCIA’S female laser sailor and national champion Stephanie Lovell has been awarded universality place to participate in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
Lovell will join female compatriots high jumpers Levern Spencer and Jeannelle Scheper who have already qualifed for the summer games which run from August 5 – 21.
Lovell has represented St. Lucia in many events over the last eight years. A current Olympic Solidarity Scholarship holder, she first represented the St. Lucia Olympic Committee Incorporated (SLOC Inc.) in Singapore in 2010 at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.
Since then she competed at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2014, the Pan American Games in 2015 and now set to be in Rio.
The athlete who participated in the British Sailing Championship in Weymouth earlier this month as part of her preparation returned home on Thursday to continue her training for Rio under the watchful eyes of her New Zealand born Coach Susanna Pyatt.
