The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) in partnership with Saint Lucia Cruise Port (SLCP) has gained regional acclaim, capturing the Caribbean Shipping Association’s (CSA) Nathan Dundas Cruise Port of the Year Award for 2024.

The award was presented during the CSA’s 55th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition, held in Paramaribo, Suriname from October 13-14, 2025, bringing together industry leaders, port executives, and maritime stakeholders from across the Caribbean.

“This recognition shines a spotlight on the Castries Cruise Terminal, which continues to demonstrate exceptional operational growth, innovation, and sustainability, securing its position as one of the region’s leading cruise destinations,” SLASPA said in a November 10 release.

The 2024 cruise year marked a remarkable period of expansion for the Government of Saint Lucia and SLASPA, with the SLCP obtaining operational control of all cruise-related services at Port Castries and Port Soufriere effective May 1, 2024.

“Throughout the 2024 calendar year, Port Castries welcomed 333 cruise ship calls, a significant increase from 264 the year before, driven by strong collaboration with cruise lines and efficient berth management,” SLASPA noted.

Additionally, passenger arrivals soared to over 721,000, reflecting not only the growing global appeal of Saint Lucia but also the port’s ability to provide a seamless, welcoming experience for guests.

“Notably, off- season activity between May and October reached nearly 75,000 passengers, more than six times the previous year’s figures – highlighting the success and ongoing efforts of both SLASPA and SLCP to extend the cruise season, thereby boosting the island’s year-round visitor economy,” SLASPA stated.

SLASPA’s success in the CSA’s evaluation was underpinned by the partnership with SLCP with a holistic approach to port management – one that integrates people, technology, and sustainability.

Accepting the award on behalf of SLASPA, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Daren Cenac, described the honor as a milestone for both the Authority and the people of Saint Lucia.

The Nathan Dundas Cruise Port of the Year Award honours a Caribbean port that demonstrates excellence in cruise operations, innovation, efficiency, and sustainable development. The award is named after the late Nathan Dundas, a visionary regional cruise industry advocate and former CSA Vice President, who dedicated his career to the growth of Caribbean cruise tourism.
