Young and upcoming Saint Lucian sprint sensation Avary Maryat showcased his undeniable talent at the 2025 Whitsuntide Games, leaving competitors in the dust and spectators in awe at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada from June 7 to 8.
At just nine years old, Avary, a Grade 3 student at Dame Perlette Louisy Primary School and a star sprinter with the Speed Sprinting Survivors Track and Field Club, stormed through the Under-11 Boys 200-meter final with an astonishing time of 27.87 seconds, shattering the previous record of 29.85 seconds.
As Saint Lucia’s sole competitor, Avary triumphed in the 300-meter race, claiming gold with a powerful 45.18 seconds.
In the 100 meters, he set an impressive pace in his heat with 13.73 seconds and finished strong in the final, securing fourth place with a time of 13.86 seconds.

His mother, Talia Elivique, emphasized that this was only his second time racing at these distances, which makes his outstanding performance even more remarkable.
While training locally for the 80 and 150 meters, Avary has proven his incredible adaptability on the track.
Avary’s achievements extend beyond athletics; he excels academically at Dame Perlette Louisy Primary School.
His commitment to both his studies and athletics underscores his remarkable discipline. He embodies the principle that success stems from determination in every facet of life.
“He thrives on competition and is unwavering in pushing his limits. I am eager to see how he performs regionally, as our ultimate goal is for him to represent Saint Lucia at the Carifta Games, the Commonwealth Youth Games, and the Youth Olympic Games,” his mother asserted.
