History Lecturer to Deliver 11th Patricia Charles Memorial Lecture

The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia in collaboration with the J.Q. Charles Group of Companies will be hosting the 11th Patricia Charles Memorial Lecture on June 12th at 7:00 p.m. The lecture will be held at the Conference Room of The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia site, Morne Fortune, Castries.

Mrs Patricia Charles was a former Resident Tutor of the School of Continuing Studies in Saint Lucia (now The UWI Global Campus), who dedicated her life to the furtherance of the Arts, Education and Culture in her adopted home, Saint Lucia. The Patricia Charles Memorial Lecture was established in 2010 and is used to celebrate her life and work.

Delivering the lecture will be History Lecturer, Ms Rhyesa Joseph. Ms Joseph who has been described as a dynamic political analyst and development strategist, has over 12 years of experience in governance, community development, and socio-cultural research.

Her expertise spans organisational management, communication, and public policy. She has made notable contributions to both regional and national projects aimed at fostering sustainable development and empowering local communities. The title of Ms Joseph’s lecture is “Memory, Culture, Tourism & Development: Evaluating Nationhood in Saint Lucia”.

Ms Rhyesa Joseph holds a BSc in Political Science with International Relations from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, where she graduated as Valedictorian in 2017. She also holds a Master of Philosophy in Political Science, with a research focus on “An Investigation into the Political Ideology of St. Lucian Koudmen and Its Utility as a Post-colonial Model of Governance, and Social, Economic, and Political Development.”

As the founder of the consultancy ‘From Classroom to Community’, she has worked with both governmental and non-governmental organisations to drive political analysis and community-focused initiatives.

Ms. Joseph’s leadership extends to her national service. She served in the Saint Lucia National Reparations Committee during a 4-year stint and continues to perform national duties as a member of the GEF SGP UNDP National Steering Committee of Saint Lucia.

She also previously served as Executive Director of the Monsignor Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre (FRC), where she oversaw numerous initiatives to preserve cultural heritage and foster community growth.

Currently a history lecturer at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Ms. Joseph continues to inspire and shape conscious national discourse, while remaining deeply committed to community development and social justice.

The lecture, which is open to the public, is expected to feature spirited discussion after an engaging presentation.
