Construction of Saint Lucia’s New Aquatic Centre (NAC) is taking on a bold dimension , as currently, steelworks are underway on the foundation for the main stand.

According to the stakeholders, this is a crucial phase in the island’s bid to establish itself as a premier destination for competitive swimming.

The aquatic facility, set to feature a 50-meter competition pool and a 25-meter pool, will be instrumental in Saint Lucia’s preparations to host the 40th edition of the CARIFTA Swimming Championship in 2027. This milestone marks a historic moment for the country, as it gears up to welcome top-tier talent from across the Caribbean to an event that has long been a springboard for future Olympians.

Officials overseeing the project highlight the significance of this steel foundation, not just for the structural integrity of the venue, but for the long-term development of swimming in Saint Lucia. Beyond serving as an elite competition site, the facility is expected to enhance training opportunities for local athletes, offering them world-class conditions to refine their skills.

“The work we’re doing now will shape Saint Lucia’s future in swimming. This isn’t just about hosting a championship. It’s about creating an environment where local swimmers can develop and compete at the highest levels, ” one official noted.

As construction progresses, excitement builds, not just for the completion of the facility but for the legacy it will leave behind, ensuring that Saint Lucia remains a key player in regional and international swimming.
