The Bankers Association of Saint Lucia (BASL) in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is getting set to observe Financial Information Month 2022 in October with a series of exciting activities and informative engagements with key stakeholders and the general public.

This year’s Financial Information Month will be held under the theme: “Financial Advancement through Enlightenment, Partnerships, and Balance” with subthemes addressing topics such as the benefits of digital banking, seizing the opportunities amidst the current world crises and financial planning to prepare for the future.

The extensive list of activities for the month includes:

• Financial Information Fair featuring local member institutions

• Financial Literacy sessions with primary and secondary school students

• Media engagements such as radio and television interviews

• Weekly Food Hamper Distribution to those in need.

Speaking about Financial Information Month 2022, President of the Bankers Association, Mr. Medford Francis, stated: “Our Membership really looks forward to this month to come together to educate the public and improve financial literacy in Saint Lucia. It’s a great opportunity to help our customers and the wider community bridge gaps in their level of financial education.

Our committee has been working on initiatives that will allow us to connect with various sectors of the society and we hope the public will take advantage of the opportunity to engage with us during this month and beyond.”

ECCB Country Manager, Mr. Everton Sealy notes that Financial Information Month is especially vital at this time when the world is facing many challenges.

“We have teamed up with the local financial institutions to really provide information in different formats that will improve the understanding of finances at a time when this is pertinent,” noted Mr. Sealy. “In our area of focus and subthemes we encompassed many issues that are at the forefront of the immediate concerns of Caribbean people.”

Financial Information Month (FIM) is a regional financial, economic, business and entrepreneurial education campaign executed within the member territories of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU). Financial Information Month (FIM) has been observed each year since 2002 during the month of October and incorporates a series of initiatives designed to support the attainment of the goal of “a financially developed and vibrant ECCU region that fosters strong and sustainable economic growth and the improved well-being of the citizenry.”

The members of the Bankers Association of Saint Lucia, with the support of the public, looks forward to a successful hosting of Financial Information Month 2022.
