Team members from Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Spa & Beach Resort have been selected to travel overseas to provide training for the extended Sandals family in Grenada, Barbados and the Bahamas, in line with Sandals Resorts International’s strong tradition of promoting from within.
Saint Lucian Aurea Anthony Daniel is one of many who is a part of this elite training team. Employed with Sandals Grande for a little over 17 years, and now Executive Housekeeper, she has travelled to assist with the training and onboarding of the new Executive Housekeeper at Sandals Grenada.
Aurea’s journey at Sandals Grande started as a senior supervisor, shortly after which she was promoted to Rooms Manager and now Executive Housekeeper. Says Aurea, “I have under my care some 90 team members currently but I can have up to 120 in my team. My passion is always about developing people and caring for them. As Executive Housekeeper I am often referred to as a mother. I have to nurture them and care for them. I advise them on their personal life, work, you name it. They come to me when they have aches and pains. I usually walk with a big bag and everyone is always laughing at me about it but I know why I have it. When my children are not well I have to take care of them and I enjoy dong that”.
Aurea said she is excited about her upcoming adventure, “Yes we speak the same English; we all have an accent that sounds familiar but cultures may be a little different and I am a little anxious because I am going to meet new people, who have their own way of thinking. I hope to learn from them just as much as I am going over to share my knowledge and expertise with them. I see it as a great opportunity, a great accomplishment”.
The elite training team will also include Saint Lucian Shama Besse, Resort Shop Supervisor at Sandals Grande, who will assist in a supervisory capacity in the Resort Shop at Sandals Grenada. Meanwhile, Emerand Mc Doom, Projects Cost controller in Saint Lucia, as well as Assistant Warehouse Manager for the SLO Warehouse will be given the opportunity to support the major renovation project at Sandals Royal Bahamian. Arthur Neptune, currently Assistant Maintenance Manager at Sandals Grande, travels to Sandals Barbados to assist in his substantive capacity for about one month, while Yancia Isaac will be sharing her knowledge at Sandals Barbados, training the new Reservationist, and imbuing in her a sense of the world class Sandals culture.
