Saint Lucia records 39 new cases of COVID-19

Wednesday March 10, 2021 the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation of 39 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory. The results are from a batch of 186 samples taken on March 8 and March 9, and processed on March 9, 2021.

Twenty-seven of the cases are inmates from the Bordelais Correctional Facility. These individuals were assessed and tested for COVID-19 at the facility and were placed in quarantine awaiting receipt of their test results. Presently, these individuals have all been placed in isolation.

The other twelve individuals are from the community and were seen at various respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting receipt of their test results. Arrangements have since been made to place these newly diagnosed cases into isolation. The contact tracing for these new cases is currently underway.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 27 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 219. Presently, three of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 3941.

The Ministry of Health also reported one COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 47. Death #47 is a 75-year-old male from the Castries district with underlying medical illnesses and was in care at the time of his passing. The Ministry of Health expresses condolences to the family and loved ones on the passing of this individual.
