Saint Lucia records 234 new cases of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Wellness on Tuesday, March, 2nd 2021, received confirmation of 234 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory. This is from a batch of 821 samples taken during the period February 12 to March 1, 2021. These samples were processed on February 28, 2021 and March 1, 2021. This increased number represents the last batch of the backlog of cases.

From Wednesday March 3, 2021 the Ezra Long Laboratory will be processing samples with a 24 hour turnaround time.

These individuals were assessed and tested for COVID-19 at various community respiratory clinics. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, these individuals were placed in home quarantine by health practitioners while awaiting receipt of their test results. Arrangements have been made to place these newly diagnosed COVID-19 cases into isolation. The contact tracing for these new cases is currently underway. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 3779.

Confirmation was also received today of the recovery of 27 individuals who were diagnosed with COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 670. Presently, three of the individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 are requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

Today, the Ministry of Health also reports one COVID-19 related death. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in country to date to 37. Death #37 is a 65 year old male from the Castries district with underlying medical illnesses. The patient was in care at the time of his passing.
