As part of the OECS Commission’s commitment to drive youth development in the region, it has become a nominating agency for the One Young World (OYW) Summit held in London, United Kingdom, from 22 – 25 October 2019. This Summit seeks to encourage peer to peer learning, mentorship by leading figures in various sectors who pursue social reform and change; and provide the opportunity for global networking among young social leaders.
For this reason, the Commission has sought to ensure that our region is well represented by individuals engaging in innovative initiatives which have and/or promises to have a high social impact at both the national and regional levels. The five selected individuals are Dionne Browne from Saint Kitts and Nevis with the Boys Mentorship Programme, Amanda Scott from Grenada with Fireflies: Girls (6-12) mentorship and empowerment organisation, Jasmine Duncan, Saint Lucia; Reimagining used tires in the construction industry, Mitchel John, Dominica; Agrosuede Backyard gardening: use of social media to promote good agricultural practices, and Chad Greaves, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; Vincy Aspire: use of technology to promote the social and educational development of youth.
