SAINT LUCIA and many other OECS Territories are currently accelerating domestic agendas in pursuit of harnessing Geothermal Energy for electricity generation. This has a long history in the sub region.
Aiming to further advance geothermal energy use in the region for resilient socio-economic development, a roundtable discussion with regional and international geothermal experts opened here on November 5, 2018.
Speaking at the opening ceremony the island`s Minister for Energy, Honorable Stephenson King said that the climate is opportune for a strategic and collaborative approach to geothermal resource development in our small economies.
Minister King lobbied the OECS to speak with one cohesive voice and to work to establish a geothermal industry vision across the region. He added that many advantages exist if the OECS pool resources to work together.
Correspondingly, individual territories face similar challenges in pursuit of the resource development, including inadequate resources.
Minister King emphasized the tremendous value of developing a strategy to support our national efforts and in parallel support functional regional cooperation on geothermal energy.
Geothermal is an indigenous resource which has the potential to form the basis of the transition of the region`s energy sector to a clean, low carbon and more sustainable pathway.
