CWI Under-19 ODI: Another Half Century for Kimani!

WINDIES Under-19 batsman Kimani Melius propelled hosts Windward Islands to their second straight victory in the WINDIES Under-19 One-day Championship currently taking place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The 17-year-old Melius, who was only last week called-up to the West Indies B Team to tour Canada, hit a boundary-studded 65 from 53 balls to top an even 50 from Uri Smith (Leeward Islands player) to carry the Windwards to a six-wicket victory at Cumberland.

Batting first, the Leeward Islands scored 155 for the loss of 9 wickets with Uri Smith top scoring with 50 before he was stumped by wicketkkeeper Tahj Tavernier off the bowling of Micah Joseph with the score on 136 for 5, after 40.3 overs.

Other contributors with the bat for the LWIs were Zawandi White 40, Elroy Joseph 21 and Joshua Grant 12.

Bowling for the Windward Islands – Micah Joseph 3 for 18; Jeron Noel 3 for 23; Jahseon Alexander 2 for 29 and Shermill Lewis 1 for 33.

Chasing 156 for victory, opening batsman Kimani Melius hit a sparkling 65 consisting of four 4s and five 6s at a strike rate of 122.64 before he was out caught by Uri Smith off the bowling of Mikyle Louis with the score on 91 after 16.4 overs. Melius and Jahseon Alexander added 57 for the first wicket before Alexander went out for 9 off the bowling of Elroy Francis.

Other contributors with the bat for the WWIs were – Jaheil Walter 20 (3 for 135), Johnnel Eugene 29 (4 for 145), Teddy Bishops 11 and Tahj Tavenier 1 not out.

Bowling for the Leeward Islands – Mikyle Louis 2 for 36, Zawandi White 1 for 12 and Elroy Francis 1 for 31.

Meanwhile, a devastating spell from left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce swept Barbados to victory against Trinidad and Tobago.

Scores in the match – Barbados 193 for 7 from 43 overs; Shian Brathwaite 72; Mekhail Marshall 29; Matthew Forde 24 and Joshua Bishop 19.

Bowling for Trinidad and Tobago – Avinash Mahabirsigh 2 for 47; Justyn Gangoo 2 for 18 and TeronJadoo 2 for 57.

Trinidad set a revised target of 201 from 43 overs under the D/L System fell short by runs as they were bowled out for 149 in 36.2 overs. Leonardo Julien 38; Mbeki Joseph 37; Crystian Thurton 31.

Bowling for Barbados – Camarie Boyce 5 for 33; Shemar Persaud 2 for 32 and 1 wicket each for Matthew Forde, Kadeem Alleyne and Joshua Bishop.

Jamaica defeated Canada by 7 wickets. Scores in the encounter – Canada 98 for 8 in 30 overs.EshanSensarma 23, Rishiv Joshi 12.

Bowling for Jamaica Sanjay Brown 3 for 12; Roberto Simpson 2 for 13.

Chasing 94 for victory, Jamaica reached their target for the loss of three wickets. Carlos Brown 37, Andre McCarthy 36, Kirt McKenzie 16.

Bowling for Canada – Randhir Sandhu 2 for 19.

In matches played on Monday 20th, for the third round, Guyana went up against Jamaica at Cumberland, Windward Islands took on Barbados at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex and Leeward Islands played Canada at Sion Hill.
