THE International Beach Season is well on its way with St. Lucia moving to the third round of qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the Continental Cup in both Male and Female Divisions, the only OECS country to do so.

According to Brian Louisy, President of the St.Lucia Volleyball Federation, “St. Lucia’s men placed fifth out of 12 in Antigua earlier in January to ensure their advancement, while the ladies scraped into the third round placing eighth out of 12 in Jamaica in February, seizing the final spot.

The Third Round of Olympic qualification will take place in May with the ladies going to El Salvador, while the men will be at home as St. Lucia plays host to 12 countries in the best of five two team contests.

Earlier this week, Darnel Eudoxie and Tevin St Jean along with Dala Noel and Kerin Neptune left the island for Guatemala to take part in the first stage of the 2016 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour as a warm up to the major challenge in May.

Meanwhile, Le Club Volleyball and Jetsetters Volleyball Club emerged winners of the Independence Championship which concluded last Sunday at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Jetsetters defeated their rivals Le Club in the Male Division winning the match 3 sets to 1. In the Ladies Division, Le Club got a real scare when they took on the Jetsetters in a keenly contested matche. Le Club had to fight hard to eventually emerge 3 – 2 winners. The final scores were 25 – 14 19 – 25, 25 – 22, 19 – 25 and 13 – 25.
