Micoud Training Workshops To Help The Jobless

MICOUD Library and the community action group People Empowering People (PEP) will be hosting a series of free weekly workshops in February to help address the issue of double-digit unemployment figures in Micoud District.

The workshops will focus on specific job-seeking skills for young people, including actual practice in creating resumés and cover letters, filling applications, and interviewing for employment , as well as basic computer literacy and personal finance.

Members of PEP, educators and business professionals in the St. Lucia community will be assisting with the presentations in the workshops, providing guidance and inspiration to the new generation of young people coming to the workforce. The workshops are supported by a grant from U.S. AID, administered through the U.S. Peace Corps.

Workshops will be held each Wednesday morning in February, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Micoud Library. The content of each workshop is as follows:

February 3: Job searches and basic computer literacy: How to search for jobs …. How to respond to job postings using email and properly-formatted attachments… Internet do’s and don’ts … How to use the library and media resources.

February 10: Applying for a job: Filling applications … Creating a resumé that gets results… Writing powerful cover letters.… Gathering good references. (Everyone will create a master document for immediate use.)

February 17: Personal finance: Understanding income and expenses… Budget… Basic personal business plan for both entrepreneurs and householders.

February 24: Job interviews: In-person interview do’s and don’ts … Online /Skype interview tips. Actual practice will be conducted via role-play during the session.
