IN an effort to up-skill and expose the leadership of the National Sports Associations to deliver best practices in management, the St. Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC), will be staging a Good Governance workshop at the Bay Gardens Inn.

“The implementation of this workshop will assist in capacity building and strengthening of national sporting associations. It is hoped that the training regime will enable them to better operate and deliver quality programmes, “ the SLOC Secretariat stated.

The SLOC statement added : “ In keeping with the 20/20 Agenda of the Olympic Movement it is imperative that this training initiative is undertaken to ensure that the affiliates of the St. Lucia Olympic Committee are familiar with the latest developments and requirements for effectively managing sports, consistent with the values and ideals of Olympism.’

Objectives of the workshop includes providing good governance training to the leaders/administrators of national sports associations, to facilitate the advancement of sports in St. Lucia and to enhance operations of national sports associations.

Following the sessions national associations should have a clear understanding of the current and emerging issues involved in the management of sport at the local and global levels, the value of good governance in the operations and productivity of the organizations, scope of work of the national sports association, the impact of leadership on the effectiveness of the organizations – in particular engaging, recruiting and retaining volunteers and succession planning.

At least 50 participants are expected to attend this workshop which is part of a series of enlightening sessions being organized by the St. Lucia Olympic Committee. The second is scheduled for June 30 to July 2.
