Saint Lucia Records 52 New COVID-19 Cases

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Friday, October 8, 2021, confirms a total of fifty-two (52) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 318 samples which were collected between October 5 and October 7, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 16.3% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in-country to date to 11, 942.

The Ministry of Health also reports one (1) new COVID-19 related death. This death occurred on October 1, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in-country is 170 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 52.

COVID-19 related death #52 is a 54 year old male from the Gros Islet district.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 69 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,140. One (1) individual is in critical state while ten (10) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,195 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 30,012 have received the second dose. A total of 11,157 individuals have received the first dose and 5,098 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Vigie Sports Complex and the Vieux Fort Wellness Center Grounds. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at both sites from 9 am to 2 pm.
