Saint Lucia records 42 new cases of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Wellness late Saturday March 13, 2021 received confirmation of 42 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory. The results came from a batch of 192 samples taken during the period March 10, 2021 to March 12, 2021 which were processed on March 12, 2021.

All of the cases were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocols, they were all placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting receipt of their test results. Arrangements have been made to place these newly diagnosed cases in isolation and the contact tracing for these new cases is underway.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 18 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 bringing the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 204. Presently, three of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4031.

The Ministry of Health also reports three COVID-19 related deaths bringing the total number of deaths in country to 51. Death #49 is a 94-year-old female from the Babonneau district with underlying medical illnesses. Death #50 is a 37-year-old female from the Gros-Islet district. Death #51 is an 84 year male from the Castries district with an underlying medical illness. All of the individuals were in care at the time of their passing.
