THREE Canadians—a father and two sons—are at the Bordelais Correctional Facility after they pleaded guilty to drug charges last week.
Forty three year old Anthony Clive Whittey received two one-year sentences to run consecutively after he pleaded guilty to charge of possession of a controlled drug and [possession with intention to export.
One of his sons, 23 year old Jamal Anthony Whitttey was fined $25,000 on a charge of possession and another $10,000 on a charge of possession with intent to export, while his younger brother Chevon Raheem Whittey was ordered to pay $15,000 and $5,000 respectively on the same two charges.
If the sons do not pay the fines within six months they will each serve 18 months in prison.
It was on, November 9, that the three men were arrested at Hewanorra International Airport on suspicion of being in possession of illegal substances.
Police say they were attempting to board a West Jet flight to Toronto, Canada. During individual searches of their person, the officers observed them wearing modified girdles.
A closer examination of the girdles revealed packages containing what is suspected to be cocaine.
As a result, all three Canadian nationals were arrested and charged for possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to export a controlled drug.
They all appeared before the Second District Court in Vieux Fort on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 where they each pleaded guilty on both charges.
