Football is Back in Dennery Under Lights

Finally footballers and football enthusiasts in the Dennery Village have something to smile about – a village which has on three occasions won the Blackheart Football Tournament has now joined their neighbours Mabouya Valley (La Ressource) and Micoud, but they are one step ahead with quality lights (LEDs)

By all indications after an extended period of time the Village has been starving from lack of sports. These are the words coming from the President of the Dennery Football League Stephen Regis. Regis spoke to the VOICE during a Football Soccer Rama this past weekend on the Dennery Playing Field.

He said, “This Soccer Rama is a clear indication that we are back in business, although the playing surface is not at its best, but rather than having the young people to remain idle, the best thing is to engage them in the Dennery Super Cup”.

“We are hoping it’s going to be a good start for Dennery in terms of football, as well as the representatives doing what they are supposed to do by giving us the facilities that we need. As president, I have a responsibility to provide for our sports persons.”

In terms of the lights, Regis said, “The lights are very much welcome. In the past, persons had challenges in getting time off to play in the afternoon, and with the lighting system in place now it is a very positive thing for the community.”

The new lighting system in Dennery is the second of its kind in the region and according to Regis, “Moving forward, the government and football are certainly heading in the right direction”.
