THE curtains came down on the 2018 Mabouya Valley Football League sponsored EC Global Insurance agents for GK Insurance (EC) Limited Under -18 Football Tournament on Saturday evening with the third place silverware and finals played at the La Ressource playing field.
In the third place silverware played in front of an appreciative crowd, Aux-Lyons United defeated Monarch 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the scores were locked at 1-1 following regulation time.
On the pitch, Vellone Paul put Monarch ahead in the 12th minute and in spite several attacks to goal by both teams the score remained 1-0 in favour of Monarch at the halftime whistle.
On resumption there were a few substations made by both sides; substitute Robert Lawrence gave Aux-Lyons United the equalizer in the 63rd minute and that’s how the scoreline remained up until the final whistle sending the game into a penalty shootout.
Aux-Lyons United prevailed 4-3.
In the grand Finals Togetherness Youth successfully defended their 2017 title with a 3-1 win over Rovers United, despite several close calls on either end of the pitch, the scoreline remained 0-0 at the half.
Following the break, Rovers United’s Captain Denelson Robinson leading from the front broke the deadlock as he put his team ahead in the 53rd minute, however, the defending champions were not ready to give up their title as three minutes later they would found the equaliser from the boots of Rohan Lammie in the 56th minute.
MVP of the Finals, Peter Alfred, two minutes later put Togetherness Youth in the lead with a strike in the 58th minute; while De Andre Happer sealed the deal and the championship trophy in the 76th minute to ensure Togetherness Youth remained as GK Insurance/Mabouya Valley Under -18 Champions for 2018.
In a brief closing ceremony at the trophies and medals presentation, remarks from the Mabouya Valley Football League President Kendel Emmanuel, Sponsors Representative and Dennery North Parliamentary Representative Shawn Edward, all expressed appreciation for the success of 2018 tournament now in its 10th year, as well as congratulating all the Clubs/Teams who participated, in particular the two time champions Togetherness Youth.
