THE Lightning Aquatic Club will today stage its most talked about event on its calendar of activities for 2018 – the 2nd Annual Carnival Relay Swimming Championship.
Close to a combined 180 male and female swimmers representing Sharks, Racers, RR (Romain Roosevelt), Southern Flying Fish, Seajays, Sports Academy and hosts Lightning Aquatic will showcase their talent at the Rodney Heights Aquatics Centre (RHAC).
Like last year, this year’s meet is expected to generate fierce competition in the pool. According to the organizers the participants will get the opportunity to strategize and bond with their teammates as they compete. There will be a few individual events, but the focus as the meet’s name suggests will be on the relays.
For the many swimming enthusiast coming to the RHAC for the five hour showpiece they will see Saint Lucia’s young, aspiring and determine swimmers in action. The 2018 Carifta Swim Championship medalists Naima Hazel (Lightning Aquatic) and D’ Andre Blanchard (Seajays ) are expected to lead the charge for their respective clubs.
Also in the thick of things will be Naekeisha Louis, Jasmine Steide, Courtney Paul, Maya Hilaire, Angelique Gaillard, Sunshine Mauricette, Anyka Holder, Mikaili Charlemagne, Veronica Brown, Gabrielle Soomer, Marisa Louisy, Chole Thomas and Mikaela Casimir.
In the boys category – Antoine Destang, Therron Herelle, Karic Charles, Allandre Cross, Jamarr Archibald, Omar Alexander, Terrel Monplaisir, JayhanOdlum -Smith, Devin Boodha, Shaquil Flavius, Yannick Layne, James Sylvester, Daniel Ambler just to name a few.
Last year’s Club of the Year, LA has issued a call to non-swimming associations/groups and organizations to rally their members and staff to participate in a fun-relay event, whereby swim aids such as noodles and kickboards may be used. The proceeds from this particular fun-relay will be donated to a charitable cause in keeping with the club’s ‘Mission Possible’ initiatives geared at helping people in need in Saint Lucia.

Club President, Tessa Charles-Louis said, “LA’s Relay Carnival will provide a good mix of serious swimming and fun. There will be fun events like the t-shirt relay and parents/coaches relays.
In an effort to ensure that a large number of LA swimmers attend the BASA invitational swim meet in Barbados from May Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th, 2018 the club will also be having a fundraising Barbeque today at the RHAC.
At the BASA Invitational last year, LA tied for 5th place out of the 19 participating clubs and 1st place OECS team with 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals respectively.
Last year, Sharks Swim Club emerged champion at the inaugural meet with 400 points, 2nd place Seajays 325 points and Lightning Aquatic 308 points rounded off the top three places.
