The Saint Lucia National Trust in collaboration with the CARIBSAVE Partnership, is implementing a project under the Caribbean Fish Sanctuary Partnership Initiative (C-FISH).
The official launch of this project will take place tomorrow January 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Belle Vue Human Resource Centre, in Vue, Vieux Fort.
The C-FISH is a four-year project aimed at strengthening community-based marine protected areas management (marine reserves or no-take-zones) by providing resources, training and alternative livelihood opportunities in five countries across the Caribbean. The focus of the initiative in Saint Lucia is to promote and enhance the capacity for sustainable seamoss production within the Pointe Sable Environmental Protection Area (PSEPA).
Approximately 60 seamoss farmers from Vieux Fort South will be the direct beneficiaries of this project which will include training and certification in sustainable seamoss production which takes into consideration climate change and environmental sustainability; marketing and product development assistance and provision of tools and equipment.
Moreover, the project will result in approved and certified national standards for seamoss production which could be adopted across the region.
Thanks in advance for your continued support of our conservation works. Do have a safe and blessed weekend.
