Reparations Lectures In Schools from Tuesday

THE Saint Lucia Secondary Schools Reparations Lecture Series gets under way on Tuesday in Castries, with schools in Soufriere and Vieux Fort also on the official schedule of the National Reparations Committee (NRC) – and others showing keen interest.

The Reparations Lectures have been organized by the NRC ahead of the upcoming October 29 CARICOM Reparations Baton Relay and Youth Rally planned for the Derek Walcott Square to introduce the CARICOM Reparations message to the youth of Saint Lucia.

The schools lecture series will introduce students and teachers to the basic elements of the CARICOM quest for Reparations from Britain and other European states for slavery and native genocide. It will also seek to correct certain historical myths and explain why Saint Lucia and all other CARICOM member-states want young persons to take up the Reparations mantle.

The NRC’s schools lecture series follows the launching in August of an earlier co-sponsored series launched by the NRC with and at the UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia at Morne Fortune.

The school series begins Tuesday at the Vide Bouteelle School in Castries, starting at 11:00 a.m.

On Wednesday it will be the turn of the Beane Field Secondary School in Vieux Fort and the Soufriere Comprehensive School, with the Vieux Fort session starting at 9:00 a.m. and the Soufriere one at 11:00 a.m.

On Friday the lectures return to Castries at the St. Joseph’s Convent from 9:00 a.m.

On Monday October 24, it will be the turn of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School with another 11:00 a.m. start.
