THE distance as the curtains came down on the 2016 annual Inter Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships held at the Beausejour Cricket Ground yesterday, as the participating students battled for bragging rights for the fastest boy and girl in the various events.
By lunch time on Friday, theBabonneau Secondary had already secured gold in the girls 16 -17, 800 metres when national athlete KamillahMonroque made light work of her opponents.
Monroque won in a time of 2 minutes 27.07 seconds ahead of Choiseul’s, Jenna Mitchel in a time of 2 minutes 34.92 seconds and Vide Bouteille’sDayna Felix in a time of 2 minutes 40.48 seconds.
In the boys 16 -17, 800 metres post-Secondary athlete No.1054 Ibed Sealy won a scintillating race ahead of Sir Ira Simons Secondary Randy Serville in a time of 2 minutes, 07.95 seconds.
The girls 16 -17, 100 metres was a joy to watch when Castries Comprehensive Jada Francis stamped her authority ahead of the pack that included SJC’s Neema Leon, and Castries Comprehensive’s Mijan Augustus to win in a time of 13.08 seconds.
In the girls 11 – 13, 80 metres Micoud’s, MyaHippolyte proved too strong for her opponents when she powered her way across the finish line to give Micoud their first gold medal in the morning session in a time of 11.11 seconds.
It was gold and silver for St. Mary’s College in the boys 11 – 13, 80 metres when Miguel Charlery (9.98 seconds) and Kenuel Pelage (10.09 seconds) made light work of the field in that category.
