THE Vieux-Fort South Football Tournament for the Dr. Kenny Anthony Cup will take a break for the festive season after the completion of its quarter final matches.
Qualifying for the semi-finals are Young Roots, Uptown, ShamballahShilloh and Green Lake. Young Roots booked their place after a 2-1 victory over Knights, who have themselves to blame after squandering a number of scoring opportunities.
The day before secured their first semi final spot with a 2-1margin over Pierrot FC. The upset of the tournament was the stunning defeat of W.Mangue U by Shamballah. Having gone through the preliminaries unbeaten and being considered as one of the favourites to lift the, W.Mangue drew first blood, but found goal scoring opportunities hard to come by as ShamballahShilloh replied with three unanswered goals to defeat them 3-1.
The fourth quarter final game was a ding dong battle between Fire service and Green Lake. With just 3 minutes after the commencement of the game Fire Service found the back of the net and took the lead. Unfortunately Green Lake piled on the pressure and soon found the equalizer and on the stroke of half time whistle took the lead.
On the resumption, Fire Service came out energized and score twice to give them a 3-2 lead, but that lead was short lived as on the stroke of the final whistle in regulation time Green Lake equalized. Green Lake won 5 – 4 in the dreaded penalty shoot out.
The semi-final line up will now see Young Roots taking on Uptown while Shamballah will take on Green Lake.
Meanwhile, the Southern Under 23 Inter-Club tournament will kick off today with matches in Vieux Fort, Laborie and Choiseul.
The participating teams are: – Biker Boys, Stable Boys, Green Lake and Kein Knights from Vieux Fort South; Pascal Joseph S.C, Radix and Bay Classics from Laborie; Somos and Saltibus F.C from Choiseul and Faith United, New Development Knights and Black Panthers from Soufriere.
The tournament opens with Biker Boys taking on Kein Knights and Green Lake taking on Stable Boys at La Ressource in Vieux-Fort. In Laborie Radix will take on New Development Knights and Pascal Joseph S C will come up against Black Panther, while Somos will play Faith United and Saltibus F C will come up against Bay Classic in Choiseul.
According to the organizers all matches are scheduled for 2:00pm and 4:00 pm start at the various venues mentioned.
